Unintentionally Awol…

When I started the blog I made a deal with myself that I would try to post at least once a week, just to keep at it and try build it up a bit. It’s actually much harder than I first anticipated to find things that are blogworthy to write about. I seem to be going through a total creativity dry spell at the moment, I haven’t even done any fashion illustrating for a while. Hopefully soon I will have an influx of inspiration and can come up with some really exciting stuff.

Sometimes it’s fun to act like a kid…

So since I got home from work today I have spent my time working on some new illustrations and playing about with glitter. I wanted to play about with some new ideas on how to make my drawings funky and a little bit different so I thought why not chuck some glitter on them!

I’m pretty pleased with the results and can’t wait to get in from work tomorrow and do some more.

I’m unable to upload them from my phone for some reason so will do it on laptop tomorrow. If you’re curious in the meantime check out my instagram account

Finally been able to get round to emailing them to myself so I can upload…

A few more drawings…

Here are a few more illustrations that I’ve done over the past few months, both digital and hand drawn..

The illustrations above were drawn around the time of the awards ceremonies, and the inspiration is clearly there. It was nice to come up with some glamorous evening gowns.

Studio project

I’ve been given permission to turn the little spare box room in our house into a little art studio and I am over the moon! My boyfriend recently converted the other spare room into a “Man Cave” which I call his Nerdvana (I find this hilarious every time I say it, him not so much) so it’s only fair really. My days are now to be spent scouring pinterest, instagram and any other inspirational blogs which might give me some great ideas on how I can turn our little box room into my own little studio space. Already I have found some lovely wallpapers which could be used for a feature wall. Such as this lovely pattern from B&Q…

I love how this looks like a fabric print so it's very fitting for a fashion illustration studio .

The rest of the walls are just going to be a thick white paintable wallpaper left white which has a subtle white stripe to it. It’s very homely so will look lovely with that print. I think the wallpaper has a lot of potential for accent colours so I could have fun changing it up as often as I liked.

I am so excited to begin this project, just need to find time when me and my boyfriend both have time off work so he can help me clear the junk out!

Thanks for reading

Digital illustrations

I love using my Samsung galaxy note 10.1 for illustrating. I use autodesk sketchbook pro app and the layers are brilliant in terms of adding tones and textures to drawings to give them more depth. I use croquis when illustrating on the tablet as it is just so simple and easy to do then I make the drawings my own with facial features, hair and rendering techniques.

These drawings have been done using pencil, micron fine liner pen and pro markers.

Allow me to introduce myself…

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I’m Nic I started up this blog as a way to compile all my fashion drawings in one place in what will hopefully be a nice organised way. Fashion illustrating is not my career, I’m actually just a customer service assistant in a  supermarket, but I love illustrating as my hobby. It’s my escape, if ever I’m bored/stressed/annoyed/angry I just take myself off with my sketchbook and put pencil to paper.

I’m constantly looking at ways to improve so if you ever have new blogs, books, illustrators or videos for me to look at I would be grateful if you could share them with me.
